Sahlab

This is not the traditional way of making Sahlab, as Sahlab is not available in UAE. As I love cinnamon, I like to intensify its flavor in the drink by boiling the cinnamon stick.

This is a very warming hot drink, perfect for cold winters. Basically its hot cinnamon milk.

If you have Sahlab powder available then replace it with the cornstarch.

You will need:

  • 2 cinnamon sticks
  • Powder milk, 3 to 4 teaspoons per cup
  • Corn starch, 1 teaspoon per cup, its a drink so you dont want it too thick
  • Sugar, to taste

Direction:

Sahlab - Add water and cinnamon stick

This amount was made for 3 people. Start by adding the cinnamon sticks to 3 cups water.

Sahlab - Boil

Bring to a boil, then let it simmer on low heat for 20 to 25 mins. Until the color is as u see in the photo and the cinnamon sticks are open.

Sahlab - Add milk

Then add the powder milk, three teaspoons per cup. Add the sugar too and mix it well. Then bring it back to a boil.

Sahlab - Melt cornstarch

Now mix the cornstarch (1 teaspoon per cup) with a little water.

Sahlab - Add to milk

Add the cornstarch mix to the milk and whisk it until it gets thick. Remember this is a drink, so u don’t want it to be too thick.

Sahlab - Serve

And that’s it. Serve it with a sprinkle of cinnamon.
